How to use the converter
- Paste the numbers. Spaces, commas, dashes and dots all work between them.
- Mark word breaks with a slash, a bar or two spaces. If the letters of each word are joined with dashes, a single space starts a new word.
- Pick the Alphabet and Case. Tick "Wrap past 26" to read 27 as A, 28 as B and so on.
- Numbers with no letter in the chosen alphabet show as ?, and the message under the boxes lists them.
How to convert numbers to letters
In the standard A1Z26 code, each number is a position in the alphabet. Count along: 1 is A, 2 is B, 13 is M and 26 is Z. Decode each number in turn and keep the word breaks where they are.

Which alphabet was used?
- Only 1 to 26: start with A1Z26, the most common choice.
- A 0 appears: the code probably starts at A = 0.
- Numbers between 65 and 122: these are ASCII codes. Capitals are 65 to 90 and small letters 97 to 122; the ASCII to text converter handles punctuation and spaces as well.
- Readable numbers but nonsense letters: try the reversed alphabet, or the message may also be shifted like a Caesar cipher.
Numbers above 26
Some puzzles keep counting past Z, so 27 is A again, 28 is B and 52 is Z. Tick "Wrap past 26" and the converter does that for you. Without it, 27 has no letter and shows as ?.
This tool turns numbers into letters of the alphabet. It does not write numbers out as words, so 42 does not become forty-two.
Tips for decoding a number code
- Keep the separators. Without them, 1225 could be 1 2 25 (ABY), 12 25 (LY) or 12 2 5 (LBE).
- Leading zeros are fine: 08 05 reads the same as 8 5.
- Check the first few words by hand with the chart above before decoding a long message.

THANKS: T is 20, H is 8, A is 1, N is 14, K is 11 and S is 19.
Why do some numbers come out as a question mark?
They have no letter in the chosen alphabet, such as 0 or 27 in A1Z26. Pick another alphabet or tick "Wrap past 26".
Can I get lowercase letters?
Yes. Set Case to Lowercase. With ASCII codes the case comes from the numbers themselves, since 65 is A and 97 is a.
Is my input sent anywhere?
