Mbps to Gbps converter
Type a speed in Mbps to get Gbps. 500 Mbps is 0.5 Gbps, and 1 Gbps is 1,000 Mbps. The menus also cover Kbps, Tbps and byte speeds such as MB/s, so one tool covers every network speed unit.

How to convert Mbps to Gbps
Divide by 1,000. Network speeds use decimal steps, the same metric prefixes NIST defines for kilo, mega and giga, so 1 Gbps is exactly 1,000 Mbps, never 1,024. Storage sizes are different, and the MB to GB converter covers those. For example, 2,500 Mbps is 2.5 Gbps and 300 Mbps is 0.3 Gbps.

Gbps to Mbps
Multiply by 1,000. 1 Gbps is 1,000 Mbps, 2.5 Gbps is 2,500 Mbps and 10 Gbps is 10,000 Mbps. Press the swap button to change direction.
| Mbps | Gbps | Mbps | Gbps |
|---|---|---|---|
| 100 | 0.1 | 1,000 | 1 |
| 200 | 0.2 | 1,200 | 1.2 |
| 300 | 0.3 | 2,500 | 2.5 |
| 500 | 0.5 | 5,000 | 5 |
| 750 | 0.75 | 10,000 | 10 |
Mbps vs Gbps: which is bigger?
Gbps is bigger. A gigabit is 1,000 megabits, so a 1 Gbps plan is ten times a 100 Mbps plan. Home fiber is often sold as 1 Gbps, also called gigabit, while most cable and 5G plans are listed in Mbps.
Mbps vs MB/s

Mbps is megabits per second. MB/s is megabytes per second, which is what browsers and game stores show while you download. One byte is 8 bits, as the bits to bytes converter shows, so divide Mbps by 8 to get MB/s: 100 Mbps is 12.5 MB/s and 1 Gbps is 125 MB/s. Type 40 MB/s into the box and the tool switches the unit for you.
Kbps to Mbps
The same 1,000 step works lower down. 1,000 Kbps is 1 Mbps, so 5,000 Kbps is 5 Mbps and 2.5 Mbps is 2,500 Kbps. Older DSL and audio bitrates are often quoted in Kbps.
How many Mbps are in 1 GB?
This mixes a speed with a file size, so the answer is a time. For file sizes on their own, use the byte converter. 1 GB is 8,000 megabits, so at 100 Mbps it takes 80 seconds and at 1 Gbps it takes 8 seconds. The result panel shows how long a 1 GB file takes at the speed you typed, and the download time calculator works it out for any file. In the other direction, 30 Mbps for a full hour moves 13.5 GB.
Frequently asked questions
How many Mbps are in a Gbps?
1,000. Network speeds always use steps of 1,000.
Is 1 Gbps the same as 1,000 Mbps?
Yes, exactly.
Which is bigger, Mbps or Gbps?
Gbps. One gigabit per second is a thousand megabits per second.
How many MB/s is 1 Gbps?
125 MB/s, because 1,000 Mbps ÷ 8 = 125.
Why is my download slower than my plan?
Plans are in Mbps and downloads show MB/s, which is 8 times smaller. Wi-Fi, other devices and the server also take a share, often 10 to 20%.
